Today Richard and Kylie talk to Dr. Harlan Kilstein. He is an author, entrepreneur, and lifestyle coach who is referred to as the Godfather of Facebook groups.

How can groups help with your marketing efforts?

Harlan says that Facebook refers to groups as communities. These communities are a great place to gather like minded people together who share ideas, goals and values.

Facebook wants you to build communities. That’s one of the reasons they promote your groups at no cost. Harlan has a keto group with 1.3 million members, and he didn’t spend any money to attract or grow that group. In this episode he shares how you can grow your group organically too.

Here are the steps to grow and serve your community using Facebook groups.

  • Search for your topic or genre. See what shows up and Search for your topic or genre. What questions are being asked? What types of conversations are people having related to your topic?
  • Check out the activity in the groups related to your topic. Harlan shares a great case study about finding the right topic and it’s incredibly helpful. Then he gives his secrets for creating the most value for your group participants.
  • When people know, like and trust you, it breaks down the barriers. That’s why selling to your group is not just okay, it’s a way to serve them.
  • Ask your group, what can I do that will be helpful? Listen! They will tell you what they need from you.
  • Every time you go into your group and post, you are building connections and trust. Once that is developed, it’s okay to sell. Serve first, profit later.
  • Find out how to front load your group to show people you have knowledge and mastery of the topic/subject. In the beginning, post several times a day.
  • The most important factor in a group is engagement. Harlan shares an easy way to get people engaged and it’s something anyone can do, no matter your topic or expertise. As you master engagement, Facebook will begin sending people to your group.
  • Will your product or service benefit the people in the group? Make offers you know will help, and lower the risk when possible with a free trial or a low buy in. Harlan shares his personal approach that you can make your own.
  • Don’t give up. Harlan makes an incredible offer so listen and find out how you get his eyes on your group.
  • Set up alerts for words and topics that you don’t want discussed in your group. Be the leader and exercise control of your group so it’s all about service and solutions.

For healers, helpers, coaches and others who want to serve, growing and leading a Facebook group is one of the best ways to build a community of people who want to engage with you.
